Movie Review: Up

Yes, I know – I’m WAAAAAY behind on my movies.  But, I finally was able to sit down and watch the movie Up with my family.  I have to say, it lived up to all the hype, and I can see why it was nominated for so many Oscars!

From the very start, Up captured our attention.  While the movie is an animated feature, it was certainly not intended only for children, and the characters offered such real emotion and tenderness.

I had heard from friends that this movie made them cry – it’s not very often a cartoon can have such an effect!  Well, it did the same to me.  The relationship between the main character and his wife, and the love he lavished on her even after she passed on, was so sweet.

Of course, this movie was not all tears and sweetness.  My kids especially like the dog, who is able to talk through a special collar he wears, and the giant bird found in the rainforest.  Very funny moments!

I felt it was appropriate for children of all ages and parents could enjoy it at the same time.  Small children may not completely understand the death of a character, so parents should be aware that there may need to be some explanation about it.  Overall, a great family film, and very well-made.

If you saw this movie (I’m sure I’m the only one who hadn’t by this time!), feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts.  I would love to hear what you thought about it, and how your children felt about it!
