How will YOU be celebrating National Library Week? If you enjoy the resources your Library has to offer your community, consider helping out as a volunteer!
We are gearing up for our upcoming summer and fall events, and we NEED YOU to make them successful!
Are you able to help with one event per year? Would you rather help out at the Library during the week? Do you enjoy working with children? Like to cook?
WE NEED YOU!
Please let us know if you are willing to help out as a volunteer this year. We are updating our volunteer database, and we need to hear from you! Even if you have helped in the past, we would like to make sure you are still interested – do let us know.
There is no committent required – we will contact you as needs arise, and you have decide if it will fit into your schedule. That’s it. It’s not high-pressure. It IS fun.
Here is how you can let us know you are willing to help:
We would love to get your email address as a primary source of communication, if possible. It makes things much easier to be able to reach our entire database in one email rather than dozens of phone calls!
Our upcoming events include children’s games at the Yellowstone Trail Social on June 19 and a food stand at Hammond Heartland Days in August. We also have many summer programs coming up, and we can always use extra help getting ready for them!
Thanks in advance for considering what you can do to make your Library an even better place to visit. We appreciate you all!

Once again, the Hammond Library is serving as a drop-off location for the Holiday Angels program. Bring in your new, unwrapped gift and it will be distributed to local families in need this Christmas. You have until December 9 to bring your gift in! There is always a need for gifts that appeal to older kids, and books always make great gifts. Thanks in advance for your support of this program!

We had a fantastic turnout for the first Yellowstone Trail Social in Hammond on Father’s Day! Several hundred people enjoyed great food, music by the Tin Pan Alley Cats, root beer floats, cars, tractors, children’s activities and more. We were so pleased the weather cooperated for the event!
Thanks to all of you who volunteered your time and resources to help make this event a success. The Yellowstone Trail Committee is already planning for next year’s Yellowstone Trail Social – mark your calendars for Father’s Day 2011!

If any of you are free Wednesday afternoons for the next few weeks, drop in on the Altered Book class being offered by Lisa Califf! I attended yesterday with ny 4-yr-old daughter, and it was so much fun! No artistic skill is required, it’s great for all ages and you can do anything you like to alter your book. Lisa is asking for a $5 donation to the library to cover supplies – everything else is provided by the library.
Here are a few photos from yesterday’s class – join us! And if you can’t make all the classes, never fear. This is a project that can be finished at home once you know the basics. Or, if you are like the girls in the class, they have nearly finished their altered books in just one 2-hour session. Hope to see you there next week!
